If you’ve a yen for mysteries and thrillers, Scottsdale’s Poisoned Pen bookstore is the place to sit and sip a coffee with your favorite whodunits. The monthly calendar signings include fiction greats like Michael Connolly, Gregory Maguire, Sam Bo Sykes, and Debora Coonts, among others. Owner and ex-librarian Barbara Peters and her husband Robert Rosenwald started the Poisoned Pen in 1989 to support Barbara’s book habit, and the store grew swiftly into a community experience. The more than 200 annual book signings are hosted with potluck suppers where fans and readers gather to eat and discuss their favorite authors, many of whom share a meal with them. The Poisoned Pen houses more than 10,000 titles and carries British imports as well as American titles. It also boasts the largest selection of rare mystery novels in the country.
