It’s hard to believe that Matt’s Big Breakfast is contained in 800 square feet, including the kitchen. No wonder patrons line up around the corner each morning for a plate of Matt’s best. Locals love the Chop & Chick (two eggs and a skillet-seared Iowa pork rib chop) and the Five Spot (a breakfast sandwich on a roll with two eggs, two slices of thick-cut bacon, American cheese, and grilled onions). Favorite sides include off-the-bone ham, the big hash browns, and extra 100 percent maple syrup. The Big Butter Burger draws a lunchtime crowd because the hand-pressed Niman Ranch ground chuck is grilled in butter and topped with a gooey waterfall of American cheese. Only one word of caution: After breakfast or lunch you may need a big nap.
