No one loves gardens more than the British. Most passionate of all are the 3,600 or so fine people who open their gardens for charity as part of the National Garden Scheme. Almost all are private, open one or two days a year. The more than $4 million annually collected in fees go to support nursing, caring, and gardening charities. The famous Yellow Book — listing the gardens, open dates, and everything you need — is available from any major bookstore.
