From April through October, witness the flying Congress Avenue Bridge Bats. Each night at dusk 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats come flapping out from under the bridge in downtown Austin. Their main objective: eat as many insects as possible. The spectacle is one to behold. What begins with a few bats quickly turns into hundreds as they rise up into the darkening sky, forming a black ribbon of flying mammals.
